Dining Room
Choose a rug that extends at least 24 inches beyond each side of the table so chairs can slide in and out comfortably.
Entryway
A 3x5 or 4x6 rug works well for most entryways. Make sure it does not interfere with the door opening.
Living Room
For a seating area, choose a rug large enough so that at least the front legs of all furniture pieces sit on the rug. Common sizes are 8x10 or 9x12.
Kitchen
A runner rug works great in front of the sink or stove. For larger kitchens, a 4x6 or 5x8 can anchor the space.

- Beat the rug with a rug beater or broom to dislodge embedded particles.
- Vacuum on a low setting without a beater bar to avoid pulling fibers.
- Use dry shampoo or a foam carpet cleaner for spot cleaning.
- Use a carpet rake to keep fibers fluffy and upright.
Consider the existing colors in your room, including walls, furniture, and decor. A rug can either complement or contrast with these elements.
Lighter colors make a room feel larger and more open, while darker colors add warmth and coziness.
