Why we love Maryland

Maryland is a small state with a giant range of scenery. The Chesapeake Bay cuts deep into the land, wrapping the Eastern Shore in tidal marshes, quiet creeks and wide, silvery skies. Blue crab season shapes summer tables, sailboats fill the harbors of Annapolis and Baltimore, and the Atlantic breeze carries into Ocean City. Head west and the land rises through rolling farm country to the forested ridges of the Appalachians, where autumn sets the hillsides on fire.

That variety shows up inside Maryland homes. Think of the brick rowhouses of Baltimore with their long, narrow hallways, the colonial charm of historic Annapolis, and cozy mountain cabins near Deep Creek Lake. Shoppers here are leaning toward black, green and ivory, in modern, vintage and traditional looks, from machine made practicality to hand woven and hand braided character, in rectangle and round shapes. Green echoes the marsh grass and forest, ivory brightens a bay-lit room, and black adds a crisp, grounded edge. • Bay Light, Green and Ivory

The Chesapeake's soft, reflective light makes ivory rugs glow and lets green tones feel fresh, like marsh grass on a breezy afternoon. Try them in a sunny living room.

  • Four Seasons of Comfort

Crisp fall color, snowy mountain weekends and humid bay summers all call for rugs that adapt. A hand woven or hand braided piece adds cozy texture underfoot when the weather turns.

  • Rowhouses and Colonial Charm

Baltimore's brick rowhouses and Annapolis's historic streets suit vintage and traditional rugs, while a modern black design adds contrast. A rectangle runner is ideal for a long hallway, and a round rug warms a small nook.

What Maryland loves

Maryland shoppers are choosing black, green and ivory, a palette that feels like the state itself: deep shadowed woods, marsh grass and soft bay light. Modern designs bring clean lines to city rooms, vintage looks add well-loved warmth, and traditional patterns suit classic brick and colonial interiors. Machine made rugs handle busy households, while hand woven and hand braided pieces add texture. Rectangles anchor living rooms, and round rugs soften an entry or reading corner.
