Oval rugs
An oval rug softens a room full of straight lines. Set one under an oval dining table, in front of a curved sofa or along the side of a bed, and leave a strip of floor showing all the way round.

Frequently asked questions
Where does an oval rug work well?
Oval rugs follow the shape of oval and round dining tables, fill a bay window nicely and sit well beside a bed or in an entryway where a rectangle feels too boxy.
How big should an oval rug under a dining table be?
Pick a rug that reaches past the table edge on every side so chairs stay on the rug when they are pulled out. Measure the table, then add the depth of a pulled out chair on each side.
Can I put an oval rug in a living room?
Yes. An oval in front of the sofa with the front legs of the seating resting on it joins the group together and leaves the corners of the room open, which helps in tighter spaces.
