It is not royal blue it is a dull navy blue maybe even a midnight blue. It is not bright in color. Blues are hard to decipher with online photos. The design is beautiful with off-white in the background. It is also a short soft pile.

Photographs do not do justice to this rug. I was extremely pleased with the quality and beauty. Hard to find a rug that matches a lilac/violet painted room.
