Why we love Portland

Portland, Maine, is a place where the sea sets the rhythm. Fishing boats and ferries move through Casco Bay, lighthouses stand on rocky headlands, and the Old Port's brick streets and cobbled corners carry the feel of a living harbor town. Spread out from there, the wider metro area reaches Cape Elizabeth's shoreline, the island calm of Bailey Island, the shipbuilding heritage of Bath, and the lake country around Bridgton. Add pine forests, crisp autumn air, snowy winters and long, bright summer evenings, and you have a region that knows how to celebrate every season.

That love of place follows you indoors. Here, a home is a refuge from salt wind and winter chill, and a great rug is what makes it feel finished. Local shoppers are choosing greens, grays and light blues that echo spruce, fog and open water, in modern, vintage and traditional styles, from machine made ease to hand braided charm. Explore the rugs Portland loves on Rugs.com and bring the coast home.

  • Sea and Pine Palette

Green, gray and light blue echo Casco Bay, evergreen forests and foggy mornings. A rug in these shades ties a living room to the scenery outside.

  • Cozy Through Every Season

Long winters and breezy summers call for rooms that adapt. A soft rug underfoot warms a bedroom or entryway when cold sets in, and still looks fresh in summer light.

  • Charm for Historic Homes

Brick row buildings and classic New England houses welcome vintage and traditional rugs. Hand braided styles add a cottage feel to a cozy room.
