The piece
Bidjar
A hand-knotted, 100% wool rug with a deep red ground, this piece displays a dense all-over repeat of small floral medallions set in a fine lattice. The warm red field is enlivened with accents of black, cream, blue, brown, green, orange and purple. A multi-layered border—highlighted by a cream guard stripe and a darker outer band of palmettes and scrolling vines—frames the design and gives the pattern a clear, traditional structure. The tight knotting produces a low-to-medium pile with a firm, substantial hand and a soft woolly surface that holds crisp detail.
